Food Marketing Major

It is pretty hard to be a food marketing major abroad and not take pictures of your meals!  Below are some of the highlight dishes that stood out the most during my time traveling along with their location and a comment.

OUTDOOR FARMERS MARKET

Pula, Croatia

All the home cooked meals that were made for me during my time in Croatia came from this outdoor farmers market.  This market is here everyday and has an abundance of fresh fruit, veggies, fish and meats.

The market was so authentic that all the sellers at the farmers market had their own farms somewhere in Croatia.  Nothing beats fresh grown crops.

SEAFOOD RISOTTO

Amalfi Coast, Italy

So much seafood!  This dish was loaded with muscles, clams, shrimps and scallops for a knockout seafood combo.  While in the Amalfi Coast, we had many different seafood meals, but this one took the grand prize as my most favorite.

BRATWURST

Munich, Germany

Bratwurst with mac and cheese!  During our bike tour of Munich, we stopped at this wonderful beer garden to enjoy traditional music, dancing, and of course, beer!  Since it was during the time of Oktoberfest, everyone was in full party mode.

Throughout my time in Munich I had too many bratwurst to count.  This large and flavorful sausage pairs nicely with any German beer.

GYROS AND FALAFEL

Santorini, Greece

Ok this meal right here might have just been the best meal of time time abroad.  I LOVE Greek food so there may be a little bias.

While strolling the streets of northern Santorini, we came across this ocean front restaurant with no one in it.  We decided to give it a try and Im glad we did.  The chief was so happy that we decided to choose his eatery that he gave us the falafel in the middle for free!  Fantastic food and even better service!

OSTRICH BURGER

Copenhagen, Denmark

This by far has been the most exotic thing I have ever eaten in my life.  As strange as it may have been, this burger was absolutely amazing!  Topped with bacon, shrimp and caramelized onions, this stacked patty was a game changer.

In Copenhagen, they have this place called Paper Island.  Essentially it is an indoor food truck festival all year round.  Many of my Copenhagen meals came from Paper Island.

CHURROS AND CHOCOLATE

Copenhagen, Denmark

Anyone who knows me knows that I have an incurable sweet tooth.  For a time I was ranking my favorite places based on how good their sweets were.  Copenhagen sweets come in pretty high.  The placed where I purchased this from, Gelato Rajissimo, had an assortment of churros, ice cream, waffles and cones.  After conducting extensive research, I came to terms that churros were my favorite!

FONDUE

Interlaken, Switzerland

Don't mind if fondue!  During our last night in Interlaken, we decided to do a cheese fondue.  To be completely honest, the smell wasn't the best, but the taste was!  I mean who doesn't love things dipped in hot cheese?  Some of the dipping options included bread, pickles, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, bacon (yum!), and various fruits and veggies!

TAJINE

Marrakech, Morocco

This traditional Moroccan dish known as Tajine was out of this world.  It shares it name with the clay pot that it is made in.  This stew-like dish was spicy "meatball" tajine with quail eggs.

Served super hot, this meal is definitely a belly filler.  Also using the table bread for dipping into the sauce is totally a great idea as well.

PASTA ALLA CARBONARA

Rome, Italy

So we all know Italy is famous for its great pasta dishes, but this one takes the trophy home.  Carbonara is a dish with eggs, cheese and "bacon" (pancetta).  This classic Roman dish is found all throughout Rome at every pasta place in the city.

What separates this dish from the rest is the noodles.  Stationed in the front of the restaurant, Osteria Da Fortunata, are two to three older Italian woman who hand roll the pasta fresh daily.  This place can be found just outside of Campo Dei Fiori.

LASAGNA

Rome, Italy

Oh, lasagna.  During my time in Rome I developed this unparalleled love for lasagna.  To be completely honest, lasagna made up 85% of my dinners in Rome.  I could not get enough!  And there are so many options like: white lasagna, veggie lasagna and traditional lasagna.

This photo here is from our Thanksgiving dinner and that is me with a HUGE tray of Italy's finest dish.  The smile says it all.

PIZZA

Rome, Italy

Ok, it would be impossible to live in Rome for almost five months and not talk about the pizza!  For starters, Rome offers more of a thin crust than a thicker crust.  Here is the best thin crust that we found, a little place called Pizzeria Da Bafetto.  This pizza is topped with just about every topping imaginable

For think crust we LOVED this placed called Dar Poeta located near Piazza Delle Scale in Trastevere.  In my opinion, Dar Poeta wins 10 times out of 10!  And of course our favorite pizza flavor at Dar Poeta, Carbonara.

GELATO

Rome, Italy

Like I said before, I have a sweet tooth that just will not go away.  Frigidarium is, in my opinion, Rome's best gelato shop.  What makes this gelato shop better than its competitors is that once they scoop your delicious ice cream, they dip it in either "black" or "white" chocolate, depending on your choosing.

They constantly have new incredible flavors that satisfy all sweet cravings.
